The Director of Strategic Fiscal Planning (DFP) for the Center for Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics (CBSD) at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (UM) oversees a complex accounting and finance environment that involves direct management of the Phase III NIH Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) together with a multimillion dollar portfolio of more than 30 grants. The DFP also supervises fiscal management and budget projections for five research core facilities that provide services and access to sophisticated research instrumentation for UM researchers and a sizable cohort of external users.
A critical aspect of the DFP’s responsibilities is to lead strategic fiscal planning for the CBSD’s core facilities and provide cogent advice that will enable the Director of the CBSD to make informed decisions that will transition the core facilities to sustainable independent recharge service centers during and beyond COBRE funding. The DFP will manage grants from multiple federal agencies as well as private businesses and foundations requiring detailed knowledge of the regulations, guidelines and granting mechanisms of these organizations. In this regard, a key responsibility of the DFP is regular budget counseling and projection for a cohort of more than 30 faculty researchers with the assistance of a Grants Management Specialist. With the aid of the team, they are also responsible for building and maintaining a network of collaborative relationships with administrative offices, academic departments, other research centers and core facilities that embed the CBSD as a valued and trusted partner, increasing the attractiveness of joint ventures and advancing CBSD’s goals.

Position Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package

Salary for this position is $70,000-$75,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.
Required Qualifications
bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance or related field and 5 years of experience in a complex financial environment or equivalent combination of education and experience
Strong leadership skills commensurate with the demands and responsibilities of the position; experience and judgement in appropriate delegation of tasks to staff according to their roles and capabilities.
Excellent understanding of the principles of accounting and finance and demonstrated experience in accounting, strategic financial planning and budget forecasting.
Strong background in grants management.
Highly developed interpersonal skills necessary to work with a diverse community of researchers.
Strong financial management background in restricted and unrestricted funds, including budget development, revenue generation, procurement, forecasting and strategic management.
Strong background on all matters related to personnel and payroll, including recruitment, compensation, promotions, corrective actions and terminations.
Ability to interpret policies (state, federal and sponsor) and assure compliance on fiscal matters.
Understanding of, and ability to apply best practices as it relates to all University of Montana policies.
Advanced abilities in Microsoft Office software and University software systems and other pertinent business software.
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with a diverse array of university offices and academic departments.
Strong communication skills.
Strong planning and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines.
Adaptability, capacity to meet challenges and learn new skills.
A positive and constructive attitude, ability to interact patiently and respectfully with co-workers, learn from constructive criticism, and provide guidance and effective training of staff.

The mission of the Center is to support collaborative research among faculty investigators that employs the principles of physics, chemistry and structural biology to address significant problems in biology and medicine by (a) seeking extramural research center support to fund promising investigators and research projects, (b) providing financial support of core instrument facilities and expertise; (c) supporting students and programmatic activities of the Molecular and Biomedical Sciences (MBS) Graduate Program and (d) sponsoring programmatic activities such as seminars and workshops. These goals shall be funded in part by an NIH Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) award and from SPABA funds available from grants submitted by UM faculty through the CBSD.
