Mission of the Office of Sponsored Research:

The Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) advances faculty scholarship and institutional strategic priorities by providing life cycle support for sponsored programs from federal and state agencies and some non-profit organizations. OSR serves the academic mission of the College as a center of research development and research administration.

Job Description:

The Director of the Office of Sponsored Research leads the Office of Sponsored Research in service of this mission. The Director is the primary resource for individual faculty seeking research development support through external funding opportunities, primarily from government and some private sponsors. The Director is responsible for ensuring the effective and appropriate implementation of Federal proposal and pre-award mechanisms, and compliance with the conditions of Federal and state awards. The Director serves as OSR's liaison with other key offices on campus, such as The Faculty Center; Finance; Corporate, Foundation and Community Partnerships in Advancement; General Counsel; and Institutional Research. The Director reports directly to the Provost.

Essential Functions:

Conduct research development meetings with individual or teams of faculty

Develop and lead faculty training sessions in grant-writing and grant management processes/procedures in collaboration with the Director of the Faculty Center

Identify and promote funding opportunities for faculty, and maintain an effective communication strategy for timely notification of these opportunities

Work one-on-one with faculty to identify external funding for research, sabbatical, or other support

Assist faculty with preparation of competitive proposals, including optimizing project proposals to sponsor requirements and providing resources to strengthen proposal design, proposal editing, and budget development

Stay up to date on all federal and state policy updates pertaining to research administration

Oversee and serve as campus expert for all on-line proposal submission, required documentation, and reporting systems

Represent OSR in negotiations of subawards/subcontracts or other collaborations with partner institutions' sponsored projects offices

Coordinate with the Associate Dean of the Faculty for Research to align proposals and awards with institutional priorities and resources and certify all proposal submissions for adherence to sponsor and institutional policies

Serve as Authorized Organizational Representative for proposal submission

Serve as the Chair of GRIPP (Grants-Related Institutional Policy and Procedure) Working group for creating procedures for efficient institutional management of grants and risk reduction

In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Research, monitor College compliance with federal funding requirements, including various certifications, research misconduct reporting, and conflicts of interest

Negotiate award terms and conditions with sponsors

Manage OSR staff and conduct annual employee review in accordance with Human Resources policies.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree, required

1-3 years of Research Administration and Grant Writing required, 4 years preferred; experience in a higher education setting preferred.

Ability to understand the policies, programs, personalities, and practice of a university, individual faculty and departments engaged in academic research at a Primarily Undergraduate Institution (PUI).

Working knowledge of federal and state regulations, including all compliance areas.

CRA, GPC certification preferred

Ability and willingness to provide excellent service and to work in a collegial manner with students, faculty and staff, and other constituencies is essential.

Additional Information:
