The Burlington School District invites interested candidates to apply for the position of Director of the Burlington Technical Center (BTC)

in Burlington, Vermont. BTC is a regional technical center serving nine sending high schools. It has a vibrant community of diverse students and families and talented faculty and staff.

Pay Range:

 $120,000 to $130,000 annually; based on experience. This position is not eligible for overtime.

The Director will assume instructional and curricular leadership for Burlington Technical Center (BTC) and ensure alignment with the 21st Century Classroom. The Director will have administrative responsibility for all aspects of BTC consistent with state and federal laws as well as BSD district policies. The Director will also be responsible for all aspects of oversight and implementation of data-driven grant-funded initiatives. The Director is expected to create and maintain an educational atmosphere that provides an opportunity for all students to achieve to the optimum of their ability and all staff to function efficiently toward the fulfillment of that end.

As the  Director of the Burlington Technical Center

, your primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Leads the operation of the center in collaboration with the Superintendent and Board.

Promotes internal and external responsibility and accountability for student achievement and well-being.

Formulates and carries out effective plans for internal and external communications to parent/guardian, teacher, and child.

Encourages an inclusive school culture and promotes shared knowledge and shared responsibility for outcomes.

Fosters genuine trusting relationships with students, staff, families and community.

Articulates organizational purpose and priorities to the community and media.

Understands the importance of cultural competency and equity in the school environment.

Provides a safe, orderly climate for learning.

Establishes and maintains a positive school climate that promotes learning.

Exercises decisive leadership, including in the midst of crisis situations.

Exhibits an understanding of human development and learning and demonstrates an understanding of how these factors relate to instruction and curriculum.

Implements Restorative Practices. 

Directs and evaluates the center's educational programs using both formative and summative evaluation procedures and school-wide or grade-based data teams.

Monitors curriculum and instruction to ensure that the appropriate content and sequence are followed.

Ensures that adequate time is allocated toward learning of the district’s curricula.

Regularly assesses the teaching methods and strategies being used and ensures that they are evidence-based, equitable, appropriate, varied, and effective. 

Apply principles of teaching and learning for all students.

Articulates effectiveness of teaching and learning for all students.

Helps teachers understand and apply teaching strategies that align with the varied learning needs of students and that reflect principles of differentiated and equitable instruction.

Inspires teachers at all levels of skill and experience to acquire new competencies and experiences.

Encourages and develops the leadership of others.

Assures that a multicultural, nonsexist, and developmentally appropriate program is provided for each child;

Prepares and submits requests for purchases and repairs; monitors expenditures.

Ensures learning and program spaces are maintained and supervised. 

Ensures that a Comprehensive Educational Support System, including an Educational Support Team (EST) is available to support students who require special or additional assistance.

Works with the district special education administrator to ensure that state and federal special education procedures are followed and that a continuum of appropriate remedial and special education programs in the least restrictive environment are available to meet individual student needs.

Works with district special education administrators to ensure appropriate training and support for classroom teachers to implement accommodations, alternatives, and specialized instruction outlined in Educational Support Team plans, Section 504 plans, and Individual Education Plans.

Serves on the Regional Advisory Board (RAB) and keeps the district and sending districts apprised of key issues in CTE.

Understands Career Education Statutes and Federal Perkins Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment guidelines.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

Education: 

Minimum Required: Master’s degree in Education or Educational Administration or related area.

Certification Required:

Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License

Endorsement as a CTE Director with appropriate CTE Endorsement or eligible for Vermont Provisional endorsement.

Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Experience:  

Minimum Required: 

3 or more years of experience in PK-16 teaching or workforce development/training.

2 or more years of experience in a non-education setting, or the equivalent in working collaboratively with business and industry.

Skills in the area of program and performance evaluation.

Effective conflict resolution skills (Equity lens necessary).

Skilled facilitator and presenter.

Thorough knowledge of curriculum, instructional leadership, and administrative theory.

Understands the physical, emotional, and intellectual development of children.

Demonstrate an understanding of conflict resolution and problem-solving strategies.

Has a deep understanding regarding issues around racial equity and is committed to disrupting inequitable systems.

Knowledge of local, state and federal laws related to career and technical education, labor and industry. 

Experience with program management and development.

Experience with student management.

Experience with curriculum, instruction and assessment.

Must have excellent interpersonal skills and collaborative skills. 

Must have experience in partnerships and community relations.

Experience with fiscal planning and budget management.

Understanding of cultural competency.

Experience with multi-fund automated accounting and student management systems. 

Knowledge of the training and tooling requirements for a broad array of career clusters. 

Experience in writing and administering grants. 

Highly proficient in the use of technology for teaching, managing and marketing. 

Experience in a professional/teaching-learning community or similar learning community. 

Experience overseeing the normal school day and school events. 

Experience in working with industry groups.
