Job Description:

General Summary:

The Assistant Director of Graduate Admissions plays a vital role in graduate program recruitment, marketing, and other activities directly related to the recruitment of prospective graduate students. The Assistant Director will possess deep knowledge of SPU's graduate degrees and certificates offered by the School of Education and of the school systems and organizations graduates aim to work within.

Job Duties:

Hires, trains and gives daily supervision to a team of Graduate Interns who help manage Graduate email inbox and phone line, lead graduate-focused campus tours, and make outbound calls to prospective students.

Works as a team with other recruitment, admission, and program staff to collectively interface with qualified graduate prospects and applicants.

Develops and generates student leads for School of Education graduate programs through various venues; face to face, phone, on-line and on and off campus activities. Represents programs through various presentations and attended activities such as seminars, conventions, career fairs, graduate program fairs and regular visits to sites specifically related to the programs' target audiences.

Thoroughly documents all recruitment activities and interactions with prospective students. Must competently use CRM (Slate), Outlook and other software to manage daily administrative tasks efficiently and effectively with close attention to detail. Use systems and data to accurately report on progress toward assigned goals.

Collaborates with graduate admissions staff and graduate program faculty (primarily School of Education) to host prospective students on campus in student appointments and visit events. Relys on professional experience, judgment, and training to assess a prospective students' prior academic and professional records and their fit with SPU graduate program requirements.

Supports faculty and program coordinators in admission/application review activities, which includes: providing regular updates on application numbers and processes, auditing use of Slate for application reviews, coordinating or participating in interview days, and providing feedback on prospective students upon request.

Optimizes each graduate program's website and marketing materials for effective recruitment by collaborating with UC, faculty chairs, and/or program coordinators on content and design.

Builds rapport and maintains communication with prospective students regarding degree programs. Provides excellent customer service to prospective students as they move from prospect to enrolled student. This includes a) effective communication (email, mail, telephone, presentations) throughout the student's enrollment process, b) working with prospective students, advising them on personal educational strategies, rules and regulations in their career field, and content and requirements for individual graduate program degrees, c) and collaboration with Graduate Admissions personnel as well as graduate program faculty and staff leadership.

Assists Director in the implementation and continual assessment of SPU's graduate recruiting plan which supports University enrollment and marketing goals.

Provides oversight of recruitment funnel and each student's progress through stages. Designs an efficient process to deliver an excellent student experience.

Develops relationships with students and leaders of ethnically diverse backgrounds through culturally responsive conversations and outreach events. Assist in the University's commitment to enroll a greater number of ethnically diverse students.

Manages Slate system data in collaboration with Enrollment Operations. Offers Slate training for faculty and staff within graduate programs.

Understands and effectively communicates the University's graduate enrollment policies and overall SPU messages and vision.

Works with University offices including student financial services and student academic services as well as graduate programs' faculty and staff to ensure a smooth and seamless enrollment process for prospective students.

Requirements:

Master's degree or working toward completion of Master's degree.

Experience in applying marketing/selling techniques and methods, designing promotional presentation materials and giving public presentations.

Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills. Presentation and public speaking experience. Ability to inspire and motivate people when communicating with them.

Understanding of, commitment to, and ability to articulate SPU's distinctives.

A networker. Flexibility to respond to changing market environment by quickly developing new marketing strategies as needed. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Project management skills.

Flexibility needed to adapt work hours to peaks of the admissions calendar (including evenings and weekends).

Professional presence and appearance.

Valid driver's license required.

Experience with social media platforms, Microsoft Office suite. Experience with SLATE, and Banner (Elucian) a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

Direct experience as a teacher and/or administrator in Washington State's K-12 public school system.

Experience in the business sector and/or knowledge of business operations, is preferred.

Demonstrated knowledge of graduate admissions practices and principles with an understanding of customer service perspectives and needs.

Experience recruiting in a higher education setting with diverse populations and cultures.

Additional Information:

Position will remain open until filled.

Salary: $62,000 Annually

This is a full time position with excellent benefits. SPU pays the employee premium for medical, dental, and vision insurance. SPU makes contributions to an employee HSA account and to a retirement account after one year of eligibility in the plan. Tuition discount program available for the employee and qualified immediate family members.
