The Liberty Mutual US Technology Data and Analytics Engineering (DAE) team is seeking a passionate and visionary data leader as  Director, Data Strategy and Design (DS&D)
team to design our multi-year data strategy for an holistic data ecosystem enabling business and technology capabilities through solutions in data management, LakeHouse, Business Intelligence, Data Science/Advanced Analytics via cloud technologies.   This individual will work within the Data and Analytics Engineering (DAE) group within Global Retail Markets (GRM) US Technology reporting to the VP & Senior Director for Data and Analytics Engineering within GRM US.
Job Summary 
The leader of DS&D is an inspiring people leader of data technologists who will lead the DAE organization in data strategy, technology and design to transform Liberty Mutual's big data environments into a highly valued business assets supporting the dynamic data science and analytics needs of the future, leveraging appropriate data platforms and technologies.  This team is the glue that will ensure quality, effective, and efficient data solutions are implemented for Liberty Mutual business and technology.  This role will be central to implementation of a GRM strategic initiative called Data Evolution (DEVO) and will include partnering to create a strategy to simplify legacy data environments, new data integration, data science and build-out of data lakehouse to support business needs.  This strong leader will manage a team of senior data technologists, data designers, and data modelers charged with providing emerging technologies and designs to incubate and test new solutions, create implementation / operationalization approach, and to ensure consistent application across DAE solutions.  This leader will partner closely with the business team's Data Office product leaders and DAE solution teams.  The DS&D team will partner closely with enterprise information/data architects, who will be matrixed to this role.   
What does this role entail?
Enable business and IT vision through creation of new data strategy and designs to span all data platforms (relational, NoSQL) and data tools (Data Visualization, Data Catalog, Data Virtualization and Advanced Analytics/Data Science).
Establish operating model for DS&D team to deliver key goals such as: DEVO multi-year roadmap, data /technology solutions, repeatable data designs and patterns, data models, data governance council, and design reviews for data solutions.
Clearly communicate data strategy and execution path to DAE engineers and business partners in Data Office.
Partnering with architects develop business and DAE aligned detailed plans to lead the team on transition from current state architecture to interim and then future state.
Technology leadership of data modeling and cataloging strategy, and manage the data models / definitions centrally, working closely with Data Office stewards.
Lead selection and decisions around data tool, solutions, and data products to support GRM business and technology needs.
Working closely with partner DAE teams responsible for implementing data strategy to support Liberty Mutual's data needs.
Ensure solutions implemented meet design standards for quality, scalability, data retention, extensibility, performance, etc.
Explore and lead proof of technology (POT) of new and emerging technologies to support business or technology needs.

Create exciting and important objectives and performance measures based on overall departmental and company goals.
Establishes financial plan for department and manages to plan and establishes financial targets with business partners.
Ensures delivery of multiple initiatives via establishing operating plan and resource allocation for the department, including prioritization and staff deployment.
Leverage network of industry contacts for cloud data technologies, performs or directs research on industry trends, competitors, data products; analyzes trends and makes strategic and tactical recommendations.
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in technical or business discipline or related experience; Master's Degree preferred.
Ten (10) or more years hands-on big data, data warehouse and/or analytic experience (using RDBMS and NoSQL data platform technologies and ETL and Data Ingestion protocols).
Five (5) or more years people leadership experience as an architecture, data plaforms, or data modeling leader for data warehouse and/or data lake teams required.
Deep understanding of cloud data platforms such as Snowflake or others in both SQL and NoSQL structures.
Depth in Data Management domains such as data governance, metadata management, data modeling, data catalog and related tools (Erwin or ER Studio, Alation) required.
Champion for Agile engineering practices and working knowledge of project management and Agile development methodologies and tools (Jira, Confluence and Microsoft Project)
Collaboration mindset with customer/business focus and ability to negotiate, facilitate, and build consensus.
Ability to promote a team environment spanning multiple locations and matrixed relationships.
Strong team management, organizational, communication and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Snowflake and/or Snaplogic or Informatica strongly preferred.
Experience with Data Vault concept or other deep data modeling expertise.
Experience in Data Science and Advanced Analytic tools (Amazon SageMaker, R, Python and/or SAS) preferred.
Experience with Data Virtualization over relational and non-relational sources, preferred.
Experience with Data Quality Management preferred.
Working knowledge of BI / Analytics technologies.
Working knowledge of IT standards and guidelines (such as ITIL).
Strong vendor management skills preferred.
