Recognizing that solar PV, wind, and energy storage are set to play a major role in the energy system, Shell is building a Renewable Power business. Renewable Power is growing rapidly, and inorganic growth is at the core of our strategy.
As Shell grows its Renewable Power business, we are recruiting a Strategic Business Development Manager to join our global Strategic Business Development (SBD) team. This is an exciting role for a seasoned deal professional with deep investment origination and transaction execution experience in the power generation sector (solar, wind, conventional/thermal, energy storage, etc.). SBD plays a pivotal role in identifying and executing upon platform and asset growth opportunities within Shell New Energies’ Renewable Power team.
Responsibilities:
Source investment opportunities (e.g. platforms and/or assets) within targeted areas in renewable generation and energy storage
Lead opportunity evaluation, including commercial and economic analysis, due diligence, and transaction execution processes, in conjunction with internal teams and external parties
Execute transaction, including:
o Perform due diligence and develop the strategic and commercial investment case, including financial returns and assessment of the value of the strategic opportunity to Shell in close collaboration with Shell internal groups
o Structure and negotiate the terms of the investments to maximize both strategic and financial value for Shell. Where applicable, identify and structure strategic collaboration opportunities, as part of or in parallel to investment transactions, that accelerate Shell’s strategic objectives
o Provide leadership to virtual deal teams including representatives from various functional support groups including finance, legal, etc.
o Lead negotiations with external counterparties during all stages of the deal.
Support the post-close management of investments, which may include ongoing investment management activities
Bring domain expertise, market insight, and creativity. Continually build own and team expertise in market fundamentals and dynamics/trends, as well as strategic investment opportunity targeting, evaluation, due diligence, and transaction structuring
Provide senior input into strategic direction, targeted areas, and prioritization of SBD efforts
Develop and contribute to a high-performance team dynamic. Manage or mentor other SBD team members.
Be a credible and compelling spokesperson for SBD and the wider Shell New Energies group to external parties
Contribute to reporting and other internal administrative processes

Requirements:
Preferred Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in commercial or technical field. Master’s Degree/MBA preferred
Extensive power generation and/or power markets experience
o Experience including but not limited to wind, conventional/thermal generation solar, or energy storage
Strong deal-making and transaction experience, reflecting all aspects of the investment process: origination, due diligence, financial analysis, deal structuring, negotiation, and post-investment management
o Experience including but not limited to platform/corporate equity investments (M&A, PE, VC, etc.), strategic partnerships/joint ventures, and power asset investments (including technology-specific due diligence)
Demonstrable expertise in the commercial elements of renewable energy and/or power markets, with an understanding of technical elements/technologies
Commercial creativity and understanding of how transactions can drive strategic outcomes, with an execution mind-set
Strong professional network
‘Executive presence’ and the ability to represent SBD/Shell New Energies
Ability to build and maintain relationships within a complex, global corporation: some ‘corporate stamina’ is required.
