Energy Platform Team
Shell’s Energy Platform team is leading Shell’s efforts to design, develop, deliver and maintain a global energy management software platform that unlocks value across Shell’s Power business. The Energy Platform team aims to enable Shell’s efforts to harness the potential in its vast fleet of customers, energy assets, and power trading capabilities to deliver value across the energy industry value chain.
The Energy Platform team is a nimble, cross-functional, deeply technical and passionate group that embodies the speed and agility of a startup while embracing the scale of one of the largest companies in the world. Achieving a balance between agility and global scale provides unique opportunities, and the Energy Platform Team borrows from best-in-class product development, continuous delivery, and commercialization techniques while adapting them to the unique global context within Shell.
The Energy Platform team is empowered to coordinate and align Shell’s energy management platform objectives, strategies, and execution approaches across the company, as well as to design, deliver and maintain a mission critical component of Shell’s ability to deliver differentiated products, offerings and capabilities across its expanding global footprint.
The Senior Product Manager will lead product management activities for the Energy Platform. Responsibilities include:
Facilitate, develop, and evangelize the Energy Platform product strategy & roadmap.
Contribute to platform product strategy, and the associated collateral needed to codify and evangelize it (e.g. product positioning, alignment with business capability, business case, etc.).
Proactively seek customer and stakeholder input into product strategy, representing our diverse customer base in every decision, especially complex trade-offs.
Develop and maintain a core segment of the product roadmap, bringing to bear subject matter expertise, decision making, and ownership in your focus area while simultaneously contributing to the overall holistic product roadmap.
Maintain roadmap in a highly transparent process with collateral that demonstrates strategic rationale, priorities, and commitments to win the trust of our customers and stakeholders
Serve as an industry-expert on the market, competitors, customer value proposition, business model, and differentiating capabilities
Seek strategic alignment and cross-business consistency of our product strategy and roadmap within Product team, Commercialization, and Solutions Delivery teams with the big-picture mindset of an entrepreneur
Lead Product discovery for a core segment of the product
Understand needs of customers and their business, formulate technical/market requirements for solutions, and identify specific KPIs that represent success by a solution
Use best practices in product discovery (e.g. sprints, prototyping, customer interviews) to develop strong collateral (e.g. user stories, market requirements, product requirements, customer value propositions, minimum viable products) from which engineers can seamlessly develop products that achieve success KPIs
Prioritize and manage product discovery backlog to deliver maximum value
Contribute to team’s best practices toolkit in product discovery and help colleagues think creatively about discovery in their respective focus areas
Support Product Delivery for a core segment of the product
Prioritize product delivery backlog and create clarity wherever needed to improve team agility, velocity, and quality
Support engineers’ evaluation of design trade-offs for solutions
Own accountability for delivery of product capabilities on time, on budget, and aligned with product roadmap
After feature launch, continually improve features by leveraging quantitative data (success KPIs, user engagement) and qualitative data to feed back into future product discovery/delivery cycles
Collaborate with the larger Energy Platform team to fulfill our mission
Support Solution Delivery’s efforts to leverage the Energy Platform in commercial use and effort to monetize the platform
Support delivery of beta and pilot programs
Support other team efforts as appropriate to increase our team’s NPS

Requirements:
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelors degree in a relevant technical discipline; MBA is a plus
5 years of experience that informs technical product management in complex and innovative energy software solutions with a globally distributed user base
Experience as a technical product manager with a focus on data analytics and/or trading systems. Alternatively, experience as a technical product manager, complemented by significant work experience in energy/financial trading or big data analytics role
Comprehensive understanding of the full IoT system stack (device hardware, device firmware, device software, communications, cloud platform, cloud applications) and demonstrated work experience working on at least one layer, as well as a holistic system view
Demonstrated experience owning product strategy, discovery, and delivery for software products
Demonstrated leadership in building strong stakeholder relationships and mitigating conflict
Demonstrated subject matter expert in energy management domain, with experience in energy asset integrations, and energy-domain applications (e.g. wholesale energy market bidding and transactions, DER product sales support tools, forecasting tools, portfolio optimizations, etc.)
Comfort across dual-track Agile, continuous integration, extreme development, and test-driven development approaches
Expertise across a broad range of technologies and software design patterns
Expertise in working with various third-party vendor systems to design software solutions
Familiarity across advanced analytics, machine learning, and optimization techniques
Familiarity across Cassandra, Scylla, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Kubernetes, Docker, Spark and other modern tools
