Description
The Director, Strategy Advancement provides data-based strategic direction to identify and address business issues and opportunities. Provides business intelligence and strategic planning support for business segments or the company at large. The Director, Strategy Advancement requires an in-depth understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate across the function or segment.
Responsibilities
The Director of Strategy and Community Impact for the Humana Foundation supports operations, strategy development, execution and impact evaluation efforts to advance the Foundation's mission. The Director collaborates with the Foundation CEO and staff to ensure the Foundation's strategy is operationalized, implemented, and rigorously evaluated. They also develop strategies for thought leadership and communication of key learnings and impact both internally and externally. The Director shall also be an exceptional operator and people leader, motivating the team around the Foundation vision developed by the Foundation CEO and the Humana Foundation Board, but also tactfully working to execute. Additionally, this role serves as an essential liaison with various Humana business segments and leaders on approaches to leveraging corporate assets for opportunities to advance health outcomes and health equity.
Success for Position
The Humana Foundation gets the greatest possible gains for its community impact strategy focused on upstream social determinants of health and health equity.
The Foundation can verify the level and range of success across its portfolio and quantify total impact.
The Foundation grows as a national thought leader and builds effective partnerships, especially with initiatives that convene multiple sources of funds and nonprofit collaboration.
The Foundation can demonstrate the successful execution of its strategic plan and deliver value against measurable objectives
Responsibilities include
Be a strategic thought partner and a collaborative problem solver with the Foundation CEO, staff, senior Humana Inc. leadership, board of directors, and community partners.
Define and track impact and develop programs, initiative, grants, and communications in collaboration with key Foundation staff.
Integrate and align Foundation activities and initiatives to ensure synergies across Humana.
Lead implementation and evolution of the Foundation's strategic plan with adaptability to changing conditions.
Work with Corporate Communications on protecting and enhancing the Foundation's reputation in the region, the state, and the nation. Represent the Foundation in a variety of settings in partnership with the Foundation CEO.
Lead and motivate staff to work to the highest standards of excellence, grow professionally, and meet a shared set of objectives and outcomes
Create and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, community partners, grantees, and civic and government leaders.
Supports a culture of excellence, especially one that is proactive and quick to mobilize around issues important to the Foundation.
Exercises independent judgment and decision making on complex issues regarding job duties and related tasks, and works under minimal supervision.
Role Essentials
2- 3 years or more Knowledge expertise of health equity issues and the impact of social determinants of health; expertise in addressing health disparities and social determinants of health through diverse programs, activities and initiatives
2 years or more Direct experience in a foundation/nonprofit or community-based organizational setting with relevance to the Foundation's mission, along with evidence of increasing responsibilities and achievements
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills with sharp attention to detail
Strong interpersonal and team skills with experience in building relationships and leading teams
Self-motivated and prepared to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to understand issues at both strategic and operational levels
Collaborative in completing assignments, executing projects and interacting with the team
Adept at leading through influence and building credibility in matrixed environment
Role Desirables
Master's in Business Administration Public Administration, Public Health, Health Policy or other relevant area)
Extensive operational leadership expertise and large financial/grant portfolio management experience
