Job Description Responsible for scheduling and supervising day-to-day transportation activities from client’s site to facility or from facility to off-site disposal facilities to include troubleshooting, environmental compliance issues and policies, quality assurance/control, determining costs of transportation services, and provide technical expertise on operational modifications.

1. Recognizes and acts upon opportunities to reduce costs, increase efficiency, and increase value added services for VESTS and customers.

2. Enforces all compliance, health and safety, and procedures in accordance with VESTS, OSHA, EPA, DOT, and all other governmental regulations to provide a safe and compliant work environment.

3. Establish and track equipment preventive maintenance standards.

4. Maintain a professional image to clients by answering inquiries, quoting projects, scheduling pick-ups, and suggesting approved solutions to existing and/or potential transportation issues.

5. Review and maintain OSHA and DOT files to include VIR’s, driver logs, fuel trip reports, driver qualification files, permits, licenses, and exemptions.

6. Schedule all mandatory training courses as required by OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc., as well as update refresher courses instituted by VESTS.

7. Maintain or purchase equipment to insure optimum efficiency and effectiveness to complete projects/assignments in a timely and satisfactory manner.

8. Regularly review performance and responsibilities of subordinates and if necessary provide appropriate coaching or guidance.

9. Manage efficiency and profitability of the transportation department by reviewing P & L

statements, establish yearly budget, review capital needs, set prices, and create cost cutting measures.

10. Establish vendors for business purchases, create purchase orders for services rendered, and review bills associated.

11. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications ● Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or equivalent work experience required

● 3 to 5 years of hazardous waste experience required

● Experience in the transportation industry preferred

● Extensive knowledge in the following areas: DOT, EPA, TSCA, and OSHA.

● Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, AS400, and Lotus Notes

● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

● Time management: ability to organize and manage multiple deadlines

● Strong attributes toward: customer service, team player, supervisory and leadership skills

● Ability to create & prepare reports as necessary

● Ability to manage both union and non-union operations

● Valid Driver's License

● Commercial Drivers License (Class A or B) preferred

● 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification
