invites applications for a

Director of Development

to oversee Membership/Annual Giving, Corporate Support, and Major Giving for Montana Public Radio (MTPR). The Director develops the goals and budget for the department; strategizes fundraising plans for the year and determines priorities based on organizational goals. The Director is the key liaison with personnel at the University of Montana Foundation. The Director is also responsible for building relationships with potential individual, corporate and foundation donors, making presentations, and grant writing for special projects and initiatives. The Director works closely with MTPR and BMC staff and leadership to develop priorities for MTPR and ensures that the Development team is executing those priorities and working cooperatively.

The Director will design and implement a long-range and on-going development plan for MTPR including fundraising activities targeting viewers, corporations, foundations, and government funding sources. This position will have the authority to establish and oversee corporate support/underwriting contracts with private businesses; and approve purchase of equipment, premiums, and supplies as authorized under the management guidelines of MTPR, UM, and its budgetary procedures. The Development Director will also have the authority — in consultation with colleagues — to make decisions affecting campaign, major gift and planned giving, membership programs, underwriting rate structures, pledge drives, and other issues directly affecting MTPR development activities. The Director will serve as an effective leader establishing new initiatives that can further enhance membership growth, financial stability, and a public television system that will provide Montana taxpayers with choice, educational opportunities, and quality programming.

Fostering working relationships with the development team at Montana PBS, the UM Alumni Foundation, businesses, foundations , individuals and community leaders throughout Montana to create partnerships and raise funds

Position Details

Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package

including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.

Salary for this position is $68,000 - $70,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business Management/Marketing, Communications, Broadcasting, or a closely related field and at least five (5) years’ experience working with non-profit, individual, foundations and corporate fundraising or equivalent combination of education and experience

Ability to comply with University and MTPR policies, procedures and regulations

Ability to consult — positively — with MTPR management

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with a public broadcasting facility

Grant writing and experience organizing volunteer organizations

We broadcast to a population of about 500,000 Montanans, with an estimated weekly audience of 70,000 listeners. We have about 7,000 members who support the station financially, providing about 75 percent of our annual operating funds. Montana Public Radio enriches the mind and spirit, inspires a lifetime of learning, and connects communities through access to exceptional programming.
