Job Details:

SUMMARY

This position is the corporate subject matter expert (SME) for food manufacturing facility sanitation and sanitary design. Provide leadership in a variety of programs, projects, and resources related to company sanitation policies. Recommends, initiates, and manages new sanitation technologies, projects, and programs. Develops and utilizes, in coordination with other technical staff, new hypotheses/technology as it relates to identifying sanitation innovation and opportunities that meet company and regulatory standards.

This role is an advanced technical position that requires the highest degree of innovative and conceptual thinking. It requires high proficiency in leadership, problem solving, and the ability to influence others to be successful and a demonstrated ability to effectively apply expertise across diverse food systems. Applies principles of food safety, microbiology, sanitary operation principles, sanitary equipment design, HACCP, root cause analysis, risk assessment, issues management, regulatory compliance, and quality control. Experienced in technical project management and program/process development. Demonstrates effective external networking and strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

With minimal direction, assumes primary responsibility for leading the development and maintenance of significant Tyson FSQA policies and programs related to the management of food sanitation and cleaning. Responsible for developing short, medium, and long-term action plans for accomplishing objectives from the enterprise to the plant level and has a meaningful and ongoing impact on the achievement of objectives for each functional/business unit. May serve as Tyson Foods representative on industry committees and external groups (research, industry groups). Solves problems through application of knowledge, experience, original thinking, and testing solutions. Foster the use of alternative means to problem solving via remote technology were applicable. Prepares reports, presentations and training modules. Serves as the SME within the company and makes authoritative technical recommendations. May also interact with regulatory officials on behalf of the company. Studies relevant literature and write reports, reviews, and white papers. Works across functional areas (FSQA, engineering, operations, procurement, continuous improvement) to identify, standardize, and implement best practices, new technologies. Works to develop and implement global sanitation and cleaning standards for food processing equipment, including wet and dry cleaning methods to reduce/eliminate food safety/quality risks (e.g., microbial, allergen, etc.) and associated verification and validation protocols.

The position also has key responsibilities to assure adequate and clear communications (both written and verbal) at all organizational levels including manufacturing facilities, functional/business units, and at the Tyson Foods enterprise level. Can successfully develop and deliver clear and concise training and know-how to enable strong sanitation program execution. Participates in development of global policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure consistency of implementation relative to world class food manufacturing standards.

TRAVEL

Must be able to travel up to 75% of the time with possible weekend travel and overnight stays required. Must be flexible to participate in trips that arise with short notice.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Microbiology, Engineering or related technical field required with 10 years of progressive experience in the food (protein and bakery) industry. Advanced degree preferred

Advanced knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and sanitary design.

Experience in successfully addressing environmental wet and dry sanitation challenges in areas such as drains, floors, walls, roofs, and equipment.

Thorough knowledge and experience with diverse sanitizing applications.

Understands the principles behind verification and validation methods and has experience in application.

Excellent written and oral communication. Ability to engage all levels of employees and ability to work effectively with a team are required.

Knowledge of food law, standards, regulations as well as HACCP and sanitation principles.

Knowledge and experience working with both COP and CIP operations.

Understand and can apply basic through advanced microbiological principles. In depth food borne pathogen and spoilage organism knowledge.
