Job Summary

Responsible for leading a team of Software Development Engineers in the planning, design & delivery of software and big data streaming applications. Manages data engineering across multiple cloud platforms that serve millions of Comcast customer homes & their Internet connected devices with Comcast Xfinity xFi products & services. Manages projects from design to delivery, including new programs, improvements and modifications by working closely with multiple engineering teams and product owners ensuring operational plans are aligned with business objectives. Has a greater degree of impact on business results and typically manages one or more groups of professional employees.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities:

As a key member of the leadership team, the Sr. Manager of Engineering is encouraged to:

Provide engineering management leadership and mentoring for the xFi Xfinity power cloud development staff in big data engineering group consisting of dev,DevOps, dba engineers

Drive technical strategy, architecture and operational readiness for new initiatives and existing platforms by remove scalability issues, consolidating technologies, drive development of service layers for reuse and streamlining the data pipeline & big data application development process of multiple internal platforms.

Develop and maintain relationships with all vital internal engineering organizations to ensure a well-integrated development process and technical outcomes across programs

Manage and drive technical elements of projects from the planning stage through prototype and incubation, contributing to the code as necessary, managing DevOps and deployments of software (whole 9 yards!)

Ramp and manage engineering capacity for new initiatives and supports existing program leaders on technical talent acquisition

Perform financial analysis for engineering development and technical operations

Architect efficient, scalable & performant technical solutions for new ventures, ensuring their thoughtful integrations into Comcast's infrastructure and legacy operations

Must have skills:

Experience managing production distributed systems with big-data realtime streaming pipelines at high scale and data volume.

Experience with CI/CD deployment & upgrades of production systems on public clouds e.g. AWS/Azure/Google Cloud with zero downtime.

Hands on development experience and expertise in message and data pipeline technologies such as Apache Kafka, Akka, Spark/Flink.

Hands on development experience with Scala or Java (Scala preferred).

Identify and tackle scalability issues in platforms

Ability to conduct technical deep dives, drive architecture and can jump into code and do reviews

Experience using NoSQL databases in production systems such as Cassandra or Mongo

Experience with metrics collection/reporting e.g. Prometheus or InfluxDB.

Prior experience working with Agile/Scrum methodologies

Experience working with distributed teams including offshore teams.

Nice to have skills:

Knowledge of container management with Kubernetes and service mesh e.g. Istio

Start-up environment experience

Microservices development experience with Golang, Node or Python

Experience with DevOps tooling like Ansible, Terraform, Chef, Salt, Jenkins/Concourse CI/CD.

Experience working with logging frameworks Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana (ELK), Splunk.
