As the lead member of the central management team for the department, the Director of Housing and Residence Life is the senior housing officer for the campus and works collaboratively to support the strategic goals and Catholic mission of the University. The Director is responsible for providing supervision to the Assistant/Associate Directors and the department support staff. The Director maintains budget authority over revenue and expenses, serves as the coordinating conduct officer, plans for all aspects of department funded facilities repair and replacement projects. The Director also serves as the key spokesperson to alumni, parents, prospective students and others in articulating the vision, goals and policies of the residential program, and serves as the primary contact for Seton Hall community members on all matters pertaining to housing and residence life. The Director serves as a member of Central Staff on Duty rotation, the Behavioral Intervention Team, and University-wide committees as requested, appointed or assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Hiring and Supervision
• Responsible for recruitment, hiring and supervision of the Assistant/Associate Directors.
• Provide support and professional development for Assistant/Associate Directors.
Strategic Planning and Budget
• In collaboration with the Associate Dean of Students, responsible for the development and management of the Department Strategic Plan.
• Works with Assistant Director to develops the revenue projection plan for the department.
• Responsible for operating budget for department
• Manage vendor contracts associated with department
Facilities/Replace and Repair
• Responsible for both capital project dollars and departmentally funded facilities projects in the residence halls which includes the preparation and oversight of maintenance budgets and renovations projects, process of purchasing housing equipment (i.e. room & lounge furniture, mattresses, carpet, window coverings), including contact with vendors, and working with Seton Hall Procurement Office.
• Coordinate with staff to verify the University housing furniture and equipment inventory, maintains records on purchases, deletions and transfers affecting the inventory.
• Develop and implement a yearly replacement schedule for housing furniture, mattresses, carpet, etc.
• Collaborate with Facilities Engineering in planning long-range renovation and repair schedule, focused on balancing conference & summer housing program with repair needs
Administrative
• Serve as superuser for Maxient database.
• Serve as hearing officer for university violations and as appeal officer for HRL cases.
• Designated hiring manager for department
• Serve as a member of various divisional and University committees.
• Participate in recruitment events as needed.
• Member of the on-call rotation of the department leadership team.
Required Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Higher Education/Student Personnel or related field
5-8 yrs progressive experience in Higher Education/Residence Life
Previous experience supervising full-time staff
