Associate Director / Director of Hematology (Myeloid) Patient Advocacy

PREREQUISITES

This position will lead Bristol Myers Squibb's efforts to continue to build and develop the company's partnerships with external stakeholders including; patient advocacy groups, medical and nursing professional organizations, and the Hematology (Myeloid) community. In partnership with multiple internal stakeholders, the individual will lead the execution of a focused plan that will include short and long-term strategies and tactics for BMS myeloid products. The position will represent the voice of the patient across the full biopharmaceutical lifecycle; from research & development to loss of exclusivity. This position will closely collaborate with market assess, marketing, medical affairs, clinical development, product medical strategy, health economics outcomes research, and policy.

Primary Responsibilities:

This individual will position themselves as the primary point of contact with external stakeholder described above and appropriately engage resources across the company to meet the needs of their key stakeholders. Develop sustainable working partnerships with internal and external resources, successfully coordinate the deployment of company resources as needed to assigned advocacy stakeholders. Facilitate the development of patient and caregiver education and outreach programs via advocacy and professional organizations. In a compliant manner ensure that BMS is appropriately positioned within the patient, caregiver, medical and nursing organizations and they fully understand the BMS portfolio and our product profiles as well as our corporate commitment. Serve as the internal spokesperson for the assigned patient and professional organizations, essentially gathering and disseminating information to inform strategic decisions of the cross-functional partners and collaborate to develop tactics to address needs/issues. This position will serve as the voice of the patient for hematology (myeloid) at BMS. In concert with the cross functional team develop, gain consensus, approval and implement a comprehensive plan that includes educational programs and targeted stakeholder campaigns and messaging for each of the above areas of responsibilities. The plan must support and be strategically integrated with the overall strategic direction of corporate commercial, medical affairs, and clinical development plans. Tactics may include (but are not limited to) seminars, publications, presentations, conference presence, advisory boards, behavioral modification strategies and digital media. Demonstrate disease state expertise and engage in patient-focused initiatives in the assigned therapeutic areas. Cultivate an understanding of BMS products and the developing pipeline, appropriate indications, their application, their safety, and overall value. Be responsible for effectively managing communication and information in a regulated environment. Work in concert with internal resources to ensure that messages are clear and appropriate. Define, standardize, and advance best practices in patient advocacy and professional relations. Serve as an internal resource as appropriate and identify opportunities to maximize value of investment time and money in current and potential patient/professional relations programs. Experience in budget management and administrating all activities within a defined forecast. Ensures strict compliance with all regulatory agencies, state, federal, and international laws.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

Position is based in Summit, NJ

Requires excellent communication and negotiation skills with an ability to efficiently and productively communicate both orally and in writing

Ability to work and drive consensus across cross-functional teams

Travel required

A demonstrated excellence in project management and effectively managing multiple projects/priorities is required

5 years experience and track record of success working with or within community based organizations or other patient health related organizations providing services to targeted populations

Must have 5 years experience and demonstrated success in the development, maintenance, and advancement of external partnerships

Specific Education and Experience:

BS or BA degree; Advanced degree preferred

5 years marketing, medical, or non-profit management experience with broader healthcare business knowledge or related experience required

Minimum of 5 year experience focused on the hematology stakeholders listed above preferred.

Clinical and scientific knowledge of hematology required
