At CVS, we're setting out to create a developer experience that enables teams across CVS Digital to quickly and easily deliver experiences into the hands of our customers, all at the scale of a Fortune 4 company! The Web Platform will be leveraged by hundreds of engineers across Retail, Pharmacy, Health Solutions, and Aetna building sites used by millions of customers. We're looking for an experienced Senior Engineering Manager passionate about making this the place for front end engineers to build applications at scale. This is a new team at CVS and we need a strong technical leader who can work with a high level of freedom and autonomy, advocate for best practices, and can collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, architects and leadership to build a web platform that our engineers want to use.

What We Expect of You

• Have advanced skills in modern front-end development using frameworks and libraries such as React, Next.js, Angular, GraphQL, Redux and React Query

• Understand business outcomes and drive technical solutions to help achieve our goals

• Set Objectives and Key Results (OKR's) with your team and ensure the health of those with KPIs

• Partner with leaders across engineering, business, and product to build a strategy and roadmap

• Collaborate with other teams across CVS Digital to ensure we're building a web platform with our engineer's needs in mind

• Keep an eye out for new and emerging technologies that improve performance, delivery, and the developer experience

• Hire and retain high performing, deeply technical engineers that care about building a great engineering culture

• Lead a team of front-end engineers as they build internal shared libraries for common, nonfunctional requirements common to all teams, as well as optimizing our build and delivery infrastructure

• Actively participate in the design and architecture process for new capabilities across teams

• Be a servant leader

• Rally your team around a shared vision, and you know what they need to be successful

• Provide technical leadership, direction, clarity, and vision

• Serve as an advocate of engineering best practices, including test coverage, clean code, security, and a11y

• Be data-driven and articulate the value our platform provides to engineering teams and CVS

• Coach and mentor team members and contribute to building a strong engineering culture

• Care about the mental health and well-being of the engineers on your team

• Create a supportive and safe environment, building trust with your engineers

• Care about the career growth of the engineers on your team, and provide them with feedback and help them to set attainable goals

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

Minimum: 115,000

Maximum: 230,000

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.

Required Qualifications

• 5 years of leadership experience, directly managing individual contributors

• 7 years of experience building web applications

• 5 years of experience with JavaScript

• 3 years of experience with TypeScript

• 3 years of experience with front-end web frameworks like React or Angular

• 3 years building highly available, performant, scalable, and stable web applications

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Node.js

• Experience building accessible websites

• Exposure to GraphQL and RESTful web services

• Experience working with a source versioning tool, such as Git

• Experience with testing and proficiency with a testing framework (e.g., Jest, RTL, Cypress, Playwright)

• Exposure to DevOps tools, processes, and culture (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker, CircleCI, etc.)

• Experience working on a project using mature CI/CD practices

Education

Bachelors degree from accredited University or equivalent work experience
