Description
The Health Equity and Community Engagement (HECE) Associate Director is responsible for improving the quality of care and outcomes while managing costs for a defined group of people. The Associate Director works on problems of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial. This role, in particular, will be part of the newly formed HECE team, focused on Strategic Academic Relationships.

The HECE Associate Director will work as part of the Strategic Academic Relationships team and collaborate on a new Health Equity Innovation Hub in collaboration with the University of Louisville. This new role will have tremendous visibility across the enterprise working on this high-profile project. The HECE Associate Director identifies health needs such as chronic diseases or disabilities or the health needs of the underserved and advises executives to develop functional strategies on matters of significance. This role is required to exercise independent judgment and decision making on complex issues regarding job duties and related tasks, and works under minimal supervision. The Associate Director uses independent judgment requiring analysis of variable factors to determine the best course of action for the collaboration.
This is an agile position but will require work in Louisville at the corporate office and on the University of Louisville campus on a regular basis (e.g., monthly or more frequently). The HECE Associate Director will represent Humana as the primary liaison with the University of Louisville, in collaboration with other Strategic Academic Relationships teammates, to establish and execute against deliverables for the Health Equity Innovation Hub. This role will build relationships with UofL and other constituents in the community and will be accountable to develop, share, and track regular updates on progress toward key deliverables aligned with financial support. The HECE Associate Director will collaborate with his/her UofL counterparts (Directors, Professors, and other senior staff) on specific cores or domains of work, including research, innovation, and talent development. Each area will have critical, key priorities aligned to core metrics and stage-gated funding that the position will be responsible for monitoring and reporting against. Additionally, the HECE Associate Director will partner to convene and report regularly through multiple levels of governance associated with the project, including with Humana's senior-most executives.
The HECE Associate Director will collaborate with other Strategic Academic Relationships teammates, Humana associates, and UofL faculty and staff to
Contribute to annual strategic planning
Monitor objectives, key results, and outcomes through dashboards and other reporting mechanisms
Develop and share presentations on progress to senior team, including the Humana Foundation Board of Directors
Plan and execute a national Health Equity Summit
Drive community engagement strategies
Build relationships with faculty, staff, administration
Work across multiple departments internally and externally to establish key priorities and aligned projects to execute against those priorities related to entrepreneurship, research, and workforce development
Provide thought leadership to the field of health equity
Represent Humana internally and externally at key events
Provide guidance and leadership to the governance of the Health Equity Innovation Hub
Establish entrepreneurial partnerships
Craft and execute engagement strategies for student experiential work
Monitor training outcomes that lead to students credentialed in digital and analytics and community members employed in sustainable careers
Role Essentials
Bachelor's degree or demonstrated commensurate working experience in healthcare, health equity, health and well-being, or related field
8 years or more working with social determinants of health and health equity and/or public health
5 years or more of demonstrated management experience and partnering with senior leadership on strategic initiatives
Strategic thinker, capable of developing and executing complex strategies
Proven ability to turn data insights into action
Exceptional written and oral communications skills
Strong relationship building skills with internal and external business partners
Experience leading and managing large scale projects
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple internal and external teams
Proven planning, preparation, and presentation skills, including to senior audiences
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Comprehensive knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications
Ability to travel as needed
Role Desirables
Masters degree in related field (MPH, MHA) or other advanced degree
PMP certification or equivalent experience managing complex projects
Experience with translational research or research background
Work with academic institutions and/or public/private partnerships
Additional Information
For this job, associates are required to be fully COVID vaccinated or undergo weekly COVID testing and wear a face covering while at work. The weekly testing will need to be done through an approved Humana vendor, and unvaccinated associates should follow all social distancing and masking protocols if they are required to come into a Humana facility or work outside of their home.
