JOB OVERVIEW
The Department of Psychology at the University of Cincinnati is accepting applications for the position of Business Manager who will report directly to the department head. The Department of Psychology is a large unit within the College of Arts and Sciences that is home to a diverse group of students in our undergraduate majors in Psychology and Organizational Leadership, terminal master's program, and doctoral program. The Department has a significant portfolio of funds, fund types, contracts, and external research grants that require oversight through careful tracking and management of expenses, regular reconciliations, adherence to University policy, and preparation of financial reports useful to the Department and College administration in managing the department finances. This requires the Business Manager to work very closely with the department head, college administration, external partners, faculty, grant administrators, other staff, and students on both financial and personnel aspects of our instructional, research, and service missions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
*Manage the financial, administrative, and operational activities of a large and diversified unit with a considerable income generation component. *Coordinate budget preparation and may monitor grants and contracts. *May determine purchasing priorities and make recommendations for major capital expenditures. *Coordinate personnel functions for an operating unit. *May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.). *Perform related duties based on departmental need.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
*Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field. *Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
*Three (3) years of financial and administrative experience, including basic knowledge of business area, including standard financial principles and terminology, theories and practices. *One (1) year of supervision. *Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED
* Previous work experience in fast-paced environments, especially at a research university * Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills * Strong ability to collaborate and work well with others across sectors * Excellent time management and organizational skills * Demonstrated problem-solving abilities * Knowledge of best finance and operations practices for academic institutions * Processing various documentation related to hiring (including faculty, staff, & student workers, including international hires) * Direct experience working with funding agencies (ex: grants), contracts, and placements (ex: internships) * Purchasing, billing, invoicing, inventory, budget forecasting and preparation, budget tracking, reconciliation, and reporting, fund management/accounting. * Working knowledge of SAP Financial and Reporting systems, PACE, Concur, or related software. * Direct or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.). * Space management
