As the performance analytic lead for R&D, you deliver strategic and operational insight on BMS's R&D pipeline through innovative benchmarking and performance measurement analytics. You develop and deliver in-depth analyses and insights that meet stakeholder needs and inform decisions and actions at the portfolio and project level in R&D. You leverage internal and external data in innovative ways to drive predictions and inform risk to operational execution. You partner with functional and operational leaders to identify high value testable hypotheses and deliver actionable insights.
You work cross functionally to manage R&D benchmarking processes, liaise with industry consortia and internal colleagues to use benchmarks to inform decision making. You develop actionable insights from assessments of industry trends, and support relevant strategic & operational planning processes through appropriate targeted analytics.
Key Responsibilities and Major Duties
Liaise with cross functional teams to identify, prioritize & deliver core analytics and insights, while ensuring objectivity and consistency across the enterprise
Conduct and deliver in-depth analyses of key R&D performance measures that evaluate R&D productivity (e.g., success rates, cycle times) and other key strategic and operational KPIs
Proactively identify continuous improvement opportunities by synthesizing results from descriptive, diagnostic and predictive analytics
Effectively communicate results and implications of analyses to key stakeholders and help shape BMS R&D performance message through meaningful assessments
Develop innovative approaches to fully leverage and mine benchmarking data to optimally address key business needs
Represent BMS at industry R&D benchmark conferences, optimize industry assessments of R&D performance, and manage R&D benchmarking processes
Develop and enhance performance monitoring analysis tools to capture end-to-end R&D performance metrics across speed, on time delivery, cost and quality
Perform or guide predictive analytics to proactively identify areas of risk across speed, cost, quality
Requirements
Advanced degree in scientific (MS, PhD, PharmD) or technical field (engineering, statistics, mathematics) required, combined with external consulting experience (preferred).
MBA preferred but not required.
6 years' experience in the pharmaceutical, financial or data/technology industries (preferred) in delivering performance analytics and insights that drive decision making
Deep knowledge of industry competitive & pipeline dynamics and demonstrated ability in measuring pharmaceutical R&D
Deep understanding of how to use data to answer critical business questions and tell a story with data
Demonstrated ability to distill key insights from large amounts of data
Demonstrate a creative approach to problem solving, critical thinking skills, strong analytical ability, accountability, strong communications and interpersonal skills
Ability to operate both independently and collaboratively, and ability to think strategically.
Experience delivering in a matrix organization, including articulating value propositions, balancing trade-offs, managing demand
Understanding of the application of sophisticated analytics, simulation/predictive analytic modeling approaches related to structured and unstructured data, and how to enable it with high quality data
Demonstrated ability to build relationships with direct reports, peers and executives, influence, negotiate, and drive organizational engagement.
Ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to the changing needs of the organization.
