Position Responsibilities
The Associate Director, IT Business Partnering, Digital Innovation works as a member of the IT for Commercialization Digital Innovation team and is accountable for supporting the implementation of a digital innovation focus, acumen, and prospective digital capabilities that align to Commercialization strategic priorities. The individual will primarily partner with Worldwide Commercialization as well as Digital Health and Innovation teams across the enterprise including IT Partnering and Delivery stakeholders to establish digital innovation proof of concept and pilot projects that drive an improved customer experience for patients, providers and payers. The individual will explore and engage the external healthcare and health technology ecosystem to identify and curate strategic partnerships that address Commercialization and BMS brand priorities.
Provide domain leadership:
§ Owns the strategy and plan:
Drives the development of realistic and actionable multi-year external digital innovation roadmap, informed by business and IT. Prioritizes investment opportunities and is accountable for the project budget management.
§ Develops compelling business cases:
Leads the prioritization and development of strong and clear business cases for digital innovation investments. Defines, measures, & achieves business outcomes for highest value (at the lowest cost) digital capabilities.
§ Brings an external view:
Actively maintains awareness of external innovation drivers and opportunities as well as relevant technology trends and new ideas. Communicates a view of the external digital health landscape.
§ Knows what value looks like:
Understands where BMS should be competitively differentiated through technology, translates business needs into specific business requirements, sees realistic opportunities for IT to add more value, and balances this with a pragmatic approach.
Provide strategic leadership:
§ Builds strong partnerships with senior leaders:
Is viewed by business leaders as an effective partner who plans and delivers digital capabilities, safeguards their digital assets and supports their strategic goals.
§ Recognized as a thought leader
and trusted advisor:
Influences the strategic thinking of business and IT leaders, and helps those leaders to include future digital capabilities into their planning. Leads and/or support technical risk evaluation of new digital approaches or solutions.
§ Owns the relationship:
Has effective working relationships with all relevant stakeholders, is deeply involved with key digital innovation activities and forums, is responsible for building and managing effective partnerships at all levels during project execution, and takes full accountability for delivering the value proposition of IT.
§ Drives change:
Ensures effective planning, execution and communication of business change management to support digital capability investments, including business process changes to achieve maximum value from investments. Accountable for ensuring an effective change management plan is in place for their individual projects.
Leverages the matrix to drive portfolio execution:
§ Demonstrates matrix leadership
by ensuring that all IT functions are successful in their delivery of digital innovation POCs and pilots.
§ Empowers delivery teams:
Understands IT business partner accountabilities throughout the portfolio lifecycle, and builds empowered and trusting partnerships with IT delivery and supporting functional area team members at all levels.
§ Constructively advocates for value:
Ensures delivery teams understand how to make the right trade-offs between speed, quality and cost. Connects the business stakeholders with the broader IT services.
§ Shows good judgement in communication:
Communicates successes and issues accurately, urgently, and to the right audience, and takes accountability for ensuring effective management of expectations with business leaders.
§ Boldly acts with urgency:
Shows courage, tenacity and respect to provoke uncomfortable conversations in order to remove roadblocks to value delivery.
Primary Accountabilities:
§ IT lead for the development of external innovation strategy & framework for Commercialization
§ Continually senses and scans the external landscape to elevate self and stakeholder awareness of external trends, including but not limited to conference attendance, existing BMS partner engagement, external/industry engagement, etc.
§ Identifies external alliance and partner opportunities to collaborate, co-create and/or pilot new digital capabilities.
§ Explore and identify 3rd party solutions and services that align to BMS business priorities.
§ Creates, maintains and shares a vendor and partner database including latest disposition.
§ Provides support to BMS internal and external innovation efforts e.g. Innovation Accelerator activities and events, JPM, hackathons, etc.
§ Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to identify digital health innovation opportunities.
§ Leads and communicates external market research analyses.
§ Identifies, leads and/or supports 2-3 digital innovation POCs/pilots per year.
§ Work with other IT BPs and/or IT Delivery and other IT stakeholder groups to develop digital investment business cases and plans.
Desired Experience:
§ Strong domain expertise of the Digital Health and Health Technology landscapes as it applies to healthcare delivery aligned to areas relevant to the Pharmaceutical industry and BMS priorities.
§ Experience working in a digital health company or digital innovation focused organization.
§ Track record of leading the analysis of complex and ambiguous business needs, and integrating those into compelling and actionable strategic plans and investment business cases.
§ Experience in exploring, identifying, assessing and driving new digital capability opportunities that support organizational priorities and that enhance external customer experience.
§ Experience implementing digital capabilities in pharmaceutical sales, marketing, medical or market access business units. Preferably in multiple geographies.
§ Established external network having worked with or in the digital health ecosystem.
§ Working knowledge of agile methodologies applied to SDLC and technology services.
§ Demonstrated ability to contribute to a dynamic culture of innovation and continuous improvement across internal functions and external relationships.
§ Demonstrated ability to communicate, influence and partner with senior leaders.
§ Demonstrated business development and alliance management experience.
§ Must have Biotech/Pharma/Bio-Pharma or Digital Health experience.
§ Excellent collaboration, communication and presentation skills.
Other Qualifications:
Bachelor's, preferably advanced degree, and 5-7 years of experience preferred
Strong business knowledge with proven leadership abilities and strong executive presence
Possesses familiarity with and awareness of the full pharmaceutical industry lifecycle
Capable of working cooperatively across boundaries and within a matrix to achieve results.
Ability to deliver complex systems to one or multiple geographies and business units.
