JOB OVERVIEW
As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients.
The College of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati is seeking applications from outstanding individuals to fill the Facility manager position in the newly established Center for Advanced Structural Biology. Core facilities at UC are centralized shared research resources that provide access to instruments, technologies, training and services as well as expert consultation to scientific and clinical investigators within the Tri-state scientific community. The facility manager will report jointly to the College of Medicine Associate Dean for Research Core Facilities and to the Chair of the Department of Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry, and Microbiology. Responsibilities will include overseeing all operations associated with running a state-of-the-art cryogenic-Electron Microscopy (cryo-EM) facility that will include a Talos L120C and 200 kV Glacios cryo-TEM microscope equipped with a Falcon 4D direct detector, Mark IV vitrobot system and other related equipment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
*Maintain and operate a Talos L120C, Glacios cryo-EM with Falcon 4D detector, Mark IV vitrobot system and accompany equipment. *Prepare instructional guides for use, calibrating, maintaining and repair of core instruments. *Keep detailed records on instrument use, service, and operational specifications. *Maintain core billing and finance via Stratocore system in conjunction with the designated financial group. *Perform monthly performance and calibration test, daily alignment checks, troubleshooting equipment performance issues, manage service contracts and coordinate external servicing with vendor engineers. *Assist in the selection, procurement, installation and design of future cryo-EM and electron tomography instrumentation. *Train research staff and students in instrument operation and implementation of high-through put workflow for data collection and analysis. *Serve as the facility expert for all instrumentation used in core and facilitate regional researchers in all aspects of data acquisition and analysis in single particle cryo-EM and electron tomography. *Perform related duties based on departmental need. REQUIRED EDUCATION
PhD (or equivalent doctoral degree) in cell biology, structural biology, or a related field.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
*3 years of experience working with and maintaining high-end electron microscopes and automated systems. *Experience in computational programing and automated data collection software.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED
*Experience in analyzing biological samples with single particle cryo-EM or cryo-electron tomography. *Experience with training research staff in all aspects of EM. *Effective interpersonal skills demonstrated through past experience.
