Description:
The Director of Development is an annual gift development position supporting King’s fundraising efforts. The Director of Development will develop and manage a portfolio of individuals with a gift capacity ranging from at least $5,000 to $100,000 or more. The Director of Development will work with the Development team to craft successful strategic fundraising strategies for major gift development.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree is required;
• Must have and be able to articulate a personal faith in the Lordship of Jesus Christ and support the mission of King University;
• A minimum of five years of increasingly successful experience in fundraising with at least two years in individual major gifts fundraising is preferred, or at least five years or more successful experience in sales, marketing, business development, financial planning, or equivalent;
• Proven and measurable track record of successful face-to-face interactions with prospective donors, clients, and/or customers.
• Experience in developing and presenting proposals to prospective donors, clients, and/or customers;
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and sensitivities. This position requires the personal presence, poise, and demeanor to inspire comfort and confidence among donors and prospects.
• Ability to articulate the mission with passion and persuasion and a genuine desire to build lasting relationships.
• An organized, focused, and goal-oriented personality coupled with a high level of initiative, energy, and ability to work independently;
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment;
• Ability and willingness to travel frequently and to work outside the normal schedule including early morning meetings, evening engagements, and occasional weekend obligations;
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively, work well under pressure, and manage details of several concurrent projects;
• Excellent writing skills including the ability to craft meaningful personal letters, compelling proposals, and other communications;
• A high level of personal and professional integrity; commitment to ethical fundraising;
• Commitment to building collegiality and collaboration with an ability to inspire confidence and cooperation;
• Creativity, an entrepreneurial spirit, and flexibility;
• Self-starter; history of initiating action rather than reacting to direction;
• Proficiency in Windows applications and fundraising software and willingness to learn new applications as necessary to work as efficiently as possible; experience with a moves management system preferred;
• Excellent organizational skills;
• Equivalent combination of relevant experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in leading major gift development in a capital campaign or special project and successful record of achieving campaign/project goals;
• Experience in developing a strategic plan for soliciting and securing gifts from private sources or the equivalent in the corporate environment;
• Experience with moves management client development process and fundraising software;
• Knowledge and skill in planned gift development and/or estate and financial planning.
Responsibilities:
The focus of this position is to generate a significant number of annual gifts to King in support of its mission and programs. Core responsibilities include:
• Develop an efficient and productive prospecting system that produces a significant number of qualified leads for direct cultivation and solicitation of major gift opportunities;
• Build effective and meaningful relationships with individuals with an inclination and capacity to support the organization:
o Use skill and persuasion to inspire passion for the values and mission of the organization,
o Capitalize on the opportunities for involvement and participation, and
o Strategically build a case for support that leads to a donor who is invested in the organization financially and emotionally;
• Work collaboratively with all units to enhance/produce effective annual gift fundraising programs;
• Meet and exceed minimum fundamental activity standards for maximizing donor development opportunities;
• Meet and exceed minimum gift production goals and objectives;
• Produce documented reports on significant donor development activity;
• Produce weekly activity reports on prospecting and donor development activity;
• Maintain excellent donor records;
• Process and acknowledge gifts in a timely manner;
• Effectively manage prospect-donor development using move management development process;
• Assist in the development of budgets for annual gift development;
• Facilitate effective donor development communications with donor prospects and donors;
• Effectively steward existing donor relationships for further cultivation;
• Maintain the highest ethical and professional standards.
