The Who, What, Why and Where
Twilio is looking for a senior communications manager to help build a curve-bending internal communications function for one of the hottest hyper growth companies in tech.
This role sits on the Corporate Communications team and reports to the Director of Internal Communications. The right person for this role would become a lieutenant to the team leader, helping to run the function day to day and to represent our growing, highly-visible team to senior management.
Who?
Twilio is looking for an experienced internal communicator with the following skill sets:
Excellent writing skills, including high-quality, thoughtful executive communications; strategic messaging for business-critical issues; and engaging intranet content.
Effective stakeholder management. The ability to be persuasive, collaborative, and accommodating -- yet firm -- with all stakeholders, including C-suite execs.
Strong operational and planning skills. Someone who likes grids, spreadsheets and plans, managing deliverables and deadlines across all our function’s projects and work streams.
A hawk’s eye for detail
Empathy, kindness, and the ability to understand the unique Twilion audience
Outstanding leadership skills. Taking the initiative, making hard decisions, and being accountable.
8 years of internal and/or executive communications experience
Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, marketing, otherwise writing-intensive field or equivalent experience required.
What?
The person who fills this role will play a crucial part in connecting Twilions to our company’s mission, vision, and goals using the voice of our shared company culture -- something we call the
Twilio Magic
As a Senior Communications Manager, you will live the Twilio Magic values:
BE BOLD: Conceive, plan, and execute new programs, such as a manager communications program and an internal podcast series
BE AN OWNER: Develop plans and messaging for critical company initiatives and updates, such as organizational changes, acquisitions, crises, etc.
Draft sophisticated, thoughtful C-level executive communications, i.e. emails, video scripts, and presentations
EMPOWER OTHERS: Assist with the entire planning process and execution for our company’s annual kick off event, from content to production.
Assist with company all hands events, including content development and deck production
RUTHLESSLY PRIORITIZE: Assist the team leader with managing the day-to-day operations of our function, i.e. tracking deliverables and reporting. Anticipate the changing needs of the internal communications team and how we scale as our company grows.
WRITE IT DOWN: Support the definition of metrics and ongoing measurement of the team’s progress and success
BE INCLUSIVE: Collaborate with our Culture and Inclusion team on the varied programs to engage employees across the company

Our population has become increasingly diverse in terms of technical vs non-technical employees, as well as geographically. What’s more, Twilio’s culture and communications are highly democratic.
We must now scale internal communications to all of these Twilions -- which has greatly expanded the number of channels to be built, amount of content to be created, and need to build our systems and processes. It’s incredibly interesting and exciting work, and there are a ton of strategic and rewarding projects to own.
