The GPS BIA team (Global Product Development and Supply Business Insights and Analytics) partners with the BMS GPS organization to answer key business questions that drive business strategy using advanced data analytics and data science.

The Product Development organization within GPS supports end-to-end drug development from discovery to late phase clinical development and technology transfer. Product Development’s scope includes portfolio strategy, clinical supply manufacturing, drug substance, drug product, and analytical development for small molecules and biologics. The Associate Manager will work closely with other Product Development Analytics team members and external partners to deliver data analytics tools with a focus on business operations, portfolio strategy, innovation valuation, clinical manufacturing and progression of data analytics capabilities within Product Development.

The successful candidate has a scientific background in life sciences or engineering and has expertise in one or more of the following areas: decision analysis, data analytics, data visualization, statistics, machine learning, predictive modeling, artificial intelligence, Python and R coding, and app development. The individual works well with people from other disciplines and thrives in a multifunctional team environment. Experience in the pharmaceutical industry is desirable.

Responsibilities:

Designs, develops and implements a broad array of business analytics that solve complex problems in a computationally efficient manner by leveraging advanced understanding of statistics and data science.

Identifies and connects data sources from different systems, merges and prepares the data, and builds production-ready data pipelines when required becoming well versed with the business implications of the data.

Builds effective, easy to understand data visualization solutions that provide business insights to Product Development stakeholders.

Develops predictive models applying advance statistical and/or machine learning techniques to inform Product Development business strategies.

Develops data automation platforms to drive efficiency in business analytics reporting and predictive modeling.

Identifies new opportunities to further leverage analytics, data and analytical tools. Proactively manages planned and ad hoc analytics requests, ensuring consistent quality and timeliness in delivery to business stakeholders.

Ensures best practice adoption within stated areas of responsibility, applying appropriate levels of technical oversight, standardization and subject matter expertise.

Authors detailed documentation that describes analytics tool development, assumptions and input data and any specialized data treatments. Authors user manual for dissemination within Product Development user base.

Partners with Product Development Analytics team members to develop a deep understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, the drug development cycle, CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls) development and Product Development business priorities.

List of minimum requirements

Ph.D. in engineering, pharmaceutical science, chemistry, biochemistry, physics or other quantitative area of study with 0-3 years of professional experience.

M.S in engineering, pharmaceutical science, chemistry, biochemistry, physics or other quantitative area of study with 3-5 years of professional experience.

B.S. in engineering, pharmaceutical science, chemistry, biochemistry, physics or other quantitative area of study with 5 years of professional experience.

Strong analytical skills with substantial knowledge of data science.

Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, team-building, and communication skills to ensure effective collaborations within matrix teams.

Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to execute multiple projects and priorities.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Experience Requirements

Experience interpreting analytical results and ascertaining implications to the business.

Experience developing advanced data analytics solutions using R, Python, Java, C/C or any other data science platform.
