Director of Student Success

This position is responsible for coordinating student services at Missoula College, and will supervise the Academic Advising Center and the MC Learning Center. The Director of Student Success oversees advising for the college and will provide leadership for MC student services staff and liaise with community partners. The objectives of this position are to promote student success through equitable access to student services, increase collaboration among UM services, and facilitate evaluation of and changes to any existing services to meet changing MC student needs. The Director of Student Success will be responsible for the supervision of staff in the MC Academic Advising Center and the MC Learning Center, as well as student workers, and reports to the Dean of Missoula College.

The Director of Student Success will participate in the Academic Leadership Team at Missoula College and join wide-ranging strategic planning efforts for the college. This position will work closely with the Director of Operations and the Director of Academic Affairs to align faculty and staff efforts for student success, promote equitable access for students to various UM services, and work toward retention and completion for MC students.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

Supervision of the MC Academic Advising Center

Supervision of the MC Learning Center, including hiring and training of student employees

Coordinate MC and Mountain campus-based services, including regular meetings, communications, and collaboration as needed

Coordination with community-based services

Participate in the MC Academic Leadership Team

Work closely with UM Admissions, recruiting, and New Student Events to coordinate recruitment and onboarding for new students

Lead MC scholarship committee

Assist in new initiatives intersecting with student services, student success, and retention

Advise students seeking academic reinstatement

Work closely with the Dual Enrollment Coordinator to provide support and advising services to dually enrolled students.

Work closely with Office for Student Success, Business Services, Registrar’s Office, and all student support offices at UM.

Upon completion of training, the incumbent will have a working knowledge in:

MC and UM policies and procedures and curriculum

Comprehensive knowledge of FERPA regulations regarding student records management and academic requirements

The University (locations of buildings/departments, parking areas, network of people outside of Missoula College student may need to contact, etc.)

Registration deadlines and procedures

Proficiency with Banner, Moodle, calendar software, UMDW, and GrizMart

Ability to use Banner to determine credits for students, produce class rosters, print transcripts

CTE accreditation rules and student and faculty handbooks

Position Details

Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, MUS Contract and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package

including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.

Salary for this position is $50,000 – $56,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and at least four (4) years of experience in higher education or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the competencies required to successfully discharge the essential duties assigned to the position

Ability to relate to persons at all levels of schooling and with community partners

Understanding of student needs, as related to the Missoula College – UM student population

Ability to lead diverse teams and manage multiple projects at the same time

Ability to learn University policies and procedures related to advising, admissions, academic standing, financial aid, student success, and others

Knowledge of trends and best practices in two-year college programs, student success, and other applicable topics

A steadfast commitment to diversity, maintaining an inclusive institutional environment, and a demonstrated ability to work closely and constructively with a wide variety of constituents

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in a related field

Five (5) years’ experience working in higher education

Understanding of UM or MUS admissions, advising, academic, and financial aid policies

Familiarity with Missoula College, UM, or two-year education

Knowledge of guided pathways
