UM Broader Impacts Group

(BIG) invites applications for a full-time

Events and Special Programs Manager

to join their team on campus. The

Events and Special Programs Manager

will lead delivery of programming that positively engages the University and external communities with UM research and creative scholarship. This position will implement an array of annual events and special programs offered by BIG, which includes the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR@UM), spectrUM Discovery Area, the Office of Autonomous Aerial Systems, and the Spatial Analysis Lab.

The Events and Special Programs Manager will be responsible for:

Implementing large-scale annual events such as the UM Conference on Undergraduate Research (UMCUR) and spectrUM’s Big Night fundraiser, as well as smaller-scale events such as research presentations, professional development trainings, and the Office of Research and Creative Scholarship’s Staff Ambassadors Day.

Provide project management for the ongoing build-out of UM’s new Office of Undergraduate Research, including by facilitating strategic planning and implementation.

Managing the We Are Montana in the Classroom program, which engages UM faculty and graduate students as role models for K-12 students.

Managing budgets for BIG’s events and special projects.

Recruiting and supervising support staff for events, including temporary and student employees and volunteers.

Creating marketing and communications materials for BIG and its programs, including maintaining program websites.

The Events and Special Programs Manager will report to the director of the Office of Undergraduate Research and additionally work in close collaboration with BIG’s director.

This position requires incumbent to develop a working knowledge of UM/BIG's policies and procedures.

Required Skills

Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.

Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Ability to work autonomously as well as to work in highly collaborative teams.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Excel.

Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours for special events.

Minimum Required Experience

High School diploma and at least one (1) year of professional experience organizing large events such as conferences, fundraisers, or other public programming or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree

Stated interested in developing career experience in higher education and at the University of Montana.
