About UM
and ASUM Transportation
The University of Montana is flagship, research institution with more than 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students. It is located in Missoula, a culturally vibrant community of about 75,000, surrounded by mountains and three rivers converge. Abundant recreational opportunities in surrounding state and national forests and nearby Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park complement a thriving intellectual atmosphere.
The mission of the ASUM Office of Transportation is to promote and provide sustainable transportation options to the University community. The Office of Transportation was started in 1999, when students became frustrated with the limited transportation options on campus. The students voted to enact a fee that would fund a bus service. Although it started out with a 15-passenger van, the ridership was overwhelming and the van wasn't sufficient. Buses were soon integrated, and today our fleet consists of nine buses and four fixed routes.
