Description

The Director, Business Intelligence solves complex business problems and issues using data from internal and external sources to provide insight to decision-makers. The Director, Business Intelligence requires an in-depth understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate across the function or segment.

Responsibilities

The Director, Health Equity Business Intelligence solves complex business problems and issues using data from internal and external sources to provide insight to decision-makers regarding health equity data, trends, analytics and insights. The Director, Business Intelligence requires an in-depth understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate to advance health equity. The Director, Business Intelligence describes the tools, technologies, applications and practices used to collect, integrate, analyze, and present data in order to create insightful and actionable business information. Decisions are typically related to the implementation of new/updated programs or large-scale projects for the function and supporting technical/operational procedures and processes. The Director will also design and implement health equity focused strategic plans, drive goals and objectives, and improve performance around health equity, including creating measurement, tracking and dashboards.

The Director, Health Equity Business Intelligence will be responsible for:

Developing and driving strategy and framework for analytics and research insights work streams, both with direct supervision and indirect, cross-team and dotted line collaborative leadership, to identify insights into top health disparities and inequities in Humana membership, and opportunities to employ an equity strategy to improve clinical and utilization outcomes, to include:

Expanding the collection and alignment of rules and governance of datasets focused on health equity populations of interest, including race/ethnicity, language, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, veteran status, and more

Developing a unified health equity measure library and dashboard

Deep analytic and research dives into data stratification to surface insights

Developing, managing and maintaining Cross-functional collaboration with responsibility to implement and operationalize strategy across the Humana enterprise to advance and streamline data collection and reporting, inclusive of Bold Goal, Clinical, Pharmacy, Retail, DH&A, IT, etc. for existing demographic categories of interest and expansion of additional categories of interest and relevance to health equity, i.e., beyond race and ethnicity to sexual orientation and gender identity, disability, veteran status, and other populations historically marginalized and/or facing socioeconomic, sociopolitical and environmental barriers to health

Aligning with national entities and key internal teams on advancing health equity measurement and standardizing/certifying data. This may include relationship management with government agencies, trade organizations and credentialing bodies, nonprofit organizations, academic institutions, etc. externally and internally, including the Bold Goal Population Health Strategy team, Stars, etc.

Leading strategy with internal analytics teams to build analytics capacity, expand algorithmic skills and predictive modeling into applicable use cases for health equity that can drive organizational and process changes

Advancing Humana and CHEO's thought leadership and strategy to improve equity by identifying opportunities and driving leading collaborations with Humana Health Research and external research partners to identify evidence-based contributors and solutions to health disparities that are driven largely by social, demographic, economic and environmental factors. Specifically, develop peer-reviewed manuscripts along with white papers, conference presentations, etc.

Development and use of insights to provide strategic guidance for health equity-focused pilots, tests of change, clinical interventions, partnerships and plan benefits design

The main day-to-day responsibilities may include:

Collaborations/Coordination with internal business partners including Bold Goal, Clinical, Stars, Medicaid, Pharmacy, Digital Health & Analytics, IT

Development of strategy and framework for analytics and research insights

Management, direct and indirect of analytics and research study work to derive timely insights, including agile prioritization methods, deep level stratification dives

Deriving significant insights from data (requires familiarity and expertise with study designs, statistics, etc.) and presentation of actionable data and strategy to senior organizational leadership.

Both quantitative and qualitative research and applications of health equity intelligence

Meeting with and/or representation on external committees, advisory groups, which may include relationship management with government agencies, trade organizations and credentialing bodies, nonprofit organizations, academic institutions, etc.

Extensive experience leading enterprise wide initiatives with visibility by associates, people leaders and executive leadership

Analytics and Research Insights to Strategy Development

Proven record of success in in driving the Identification, Development and strategic alignment of long term data and analytics strategy

Development of monitoring and reporting tools and views

Track record in leading/participating in analytics and research studies

Track record in translating data into actionable insights and strategy

Health Equity and Social Determinants of Health Subject Matter Expertise

Deep understanding of the distinction between and overlap of concepts including health equity, disparities, social determinants of health, health-related social needs

Deep understanding of the data and policy landscape as it relates to health equity and social and structural determinants of health

Experience in health equity and social determinants of health in a health plan setting

Agility and Change Management

Demonstrated ability to model Agile mindset

Strong problem solving skills, flexibility and the ability to work effectively on an inter-disciplinary team

Strong verbal and written communication, including presentations

High EQ

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 10 years of technical experience in data analysis and intelligence

5 or more years of leadership experience

Knowledgeable in process improvement and metrics development

Knowledgeable in regulations governing health care industries and data privacy laws

Prior Leadership Experience

Comprehensive knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Access

Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree should ideally be in in public policy, public health, social science, informatics, analytics or related fields.

Ability to anticipate and be proactive around next steps in large initiatives simultaneously

Broad understanding of our businesses and connectedness to key Humana constituent areas

Relationship focused and can represent the office of the CRO well to both internal and external audiences

3 or more years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams.

Knowledge of Humana's internal policies, procedures and systems
